Learning Experiences for Adults and Teens at EMP|SFM

Classes & Workshops at EMP|SFM are evening sessions for adults and teens 16 and older. The classes are taught by working professionals in their field and offer hands-on training and an insider's glimpse into the performance experience.
Electric Guitar 101
Have you always dreamed of jamming on the electric guitar? Or need to re-visit guitar basics? This beginning course focuses on basic techniques, music theory, and chord fingerings to get you playing your favorite songs in no time! No experience is necessary to sign up.

Classes start November 4 and are offered Wednesdays from 6:00 - 7:30 pm for six weeks. No class on November 25.

Guitar Jam and Performance Prep
Ready to take the leap from playing guitar by yourself to playing with others? In this class, you will gain confidence in your rhythm playing and your ability to jam with others on electric guitar, learn techniques for structuring solos and experience performing for an audience. This class will end with a showcase for friends and family and is a great preparation for the Singer-Songwriter Studio and Stayin' Alive: Adult Rock Band classes. Guitar 101 or equivalent electric guitar experience recommended.

Classes start January 13 and are offered Wednesdays from 6:00 - 7:30 pm for six weeks.

Singer-Songwriter Studio
Have you've always wanted to learn how to write a song, but didn't know where to start? Or perhaps you have a song that you've been working on for ages, but haven't been able to get it just right? In this class, you will w
rite and perform your own songs in a supportive, creative environment while exploring different styles of songwriting. Students should also be prepared to do some singing. Guitarists and keyboardists encouraged to register.

Classes start February 24 and are offered Wednesdays from 6:00 - 7:30 pm for six weeks.
$135.00, members; $160.00, general public

Stayin' Alive: Adult Rock Band

Have you ever gone to a concert and wished you could be in the limelight? Well, now's your chance! Stayin' Alive: Adult Rock Band encourages you to dust off your guitar, drum kit, keyboard or bass and release your inner rocker. Band members rehearse cover songs, collaborate to create original works and learn what it takes to be a part of a successful band. The program ends with a performance in the museum's JBL Theater. All rock instrumentalists and vocalists are encouraged to sign up.
For adult students 21 and older.

Classes start April 5 and are offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 - 8:00 pm for five weeks.
$255, members; $280, general public

Multiple Workshop Discount: Sign up for more than one class and receive $15 off each additional workshop! Registration for the additional class(s) must be received by the last dayof your current class in order to receive the discount.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations prior to 14 days before the start of a session will be granted a full refund. No refunds will be granted within 14 days of the session start date. We reserve the right to cancel a class if enrollment is insufficient, in which case any tuition paid will be refunded in full.
