Science of Sound Educator Workshop
February 27, 2010
9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum in partnership with Museum of Flight
We think of music as a form of art, but it can be explained by science—the science of sound! Join Museum of Flight and EMP|SFM educators to learn how to teach students about sound. Participants will first explore sound by using activities from the FOSS (Full Option Science System) "Physics of Sound" kit. Next, those scientific principles will be modeled using the electric guitar through the "Science of Sound" EMP|SFM student workshop. Participants will try out their skills on real electric guitars, then examine the collection of historic guitars that showcase how inventors engaged in "The Pursuit of Volume." All participants receive copies of the Pursuit of Volume EMP|SFM classroom curriculum. This workshop is most appropriate for 3rd-5th grade classroom teachers.
Fee: $15, clock hours available for small additional fee.
Register by calling 206.764.1384.
