Abstract:

"Trick or Treat: Sexual Entitlement in the Dirty South"
"It ain''t trickin'' if you got it" is a slang expression that roughly translates in the square world to mean that it is perfectly fine to give money or material objects to a woman who is giving you sex, and that doing so doesn''t mean you''re hiring a hooker.

Sound familiar? That''s because it has appeared in several hit urban songs over the past few years by Dirty South rappers such as Gorilla Zoe, T-Pain, Ludacris, Lil Wayne and T.I.. For those listening intently, the now-catchphrase appears to be an inside joke between artists who are friends. But taken as a whole, there''s a larger commentary on sexual entitlement and money to be made. Let''s spark that conversation to these beats.
