Amp up your interest in music and art with EMP|SFM's Teen Artist Workshops! You will receive one-on-one training from industry professionals and a creative license to take your skills to the next level. Whatever your passion, there's a workshop for you!

For teens entering grades 8-11
Drums 101
June 29-July 2 (Four-day session, no workshop on July 3), Session Code: TAW 2D

Tap into your natural drumming ability and get better acquainted with basic beats and fills. This workshop focuses on the fundamentals of coordination and basic drumming styles and will get you playing along with your favorite songs before you know it! No prior experience required.

Guitar 101
July 6-10, Session Code: TAW 3G

Always wanted to learn how to play the guitar? This beginning course focuses on basic technique and chord fingerings so you can rock in no time! Classes taught on provided electric guitars. No prior experience required.

Bass 101
July 13-17, Session Code: TAW 4B

Increase your playing abilities in this introduction to the bass guitar. Focus on tuning, learning the names of notes and keeping the beat. Classes taught on provided electric bass guitars. No prior experience required.

Rock Band (Two separate sessions available)
July 13-17, Session Code TAW 4R
July 27-31, Session Code TAW 6R

Learn the elements of a great rock song and what it takes to be a part of a successful band. Rehearse both original songs and covers and perform with your band in a real rock concert. All rock instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome to sign up. At least six months experience on your instrument is recommended. Equipment provided.

Beat Making
July 20-24, Session Code: TAW 5B

Discover the art of beat making by creating your own original tracks! Learn basic concepts of hip-hop beats while learning to use industry-standard Reason music software. At the end of the week you'll go home with a CD of original beats recorded by you!

Voice 101
July 27-31, Session Code: TAW 6V

For those who love to sing and would like to improve their technique! Focus on breathing, phrasing, diction and expressiveness. Learn mic technique, gain confidence in your singing and strengthen your performance skills! The workshop concludes with a live performance.

Songwriting
August 3-7, Session Code: TAW 7S

Passionate about music and writing? Write and perform your own songs in a supportive, creative environment while exploring different styles of songwriting. Gain performance skills and language tools to write songs like your favorite musicians. Campers should be prepared to do some singing!

Graphic Novel
August 10-14, Session Code: TAW 8G

Learn the basics of creating a graphic novel! Using your drawing and creative writing skills, you will learn how to design characters, plan stories and create comics.

Advanced workshops for teens entering grades 9-12

Blues Guitar
July 20-24, Session Code: TAW 5G

Learn to master the blues by understanding its basic elements. Apply the techniques and styles of artists like T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters and B.B. King to your own sound. Tackle blues specific guitar techniques while expanding your musical repertoire! At least one year experience on guitar is recommended.

Advanced Rock Band
Aug 10-21 (two weeks), Session Code TAW 8R

Strengthen your playing technique, songwriting and performance skills while developing strategies for working successfully within a band. The workshop concludes with a live rock concert in JBL Theater. All rock instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome to sign up. At least one year experience on your instrument is required. Equipment provided.

How to Register
Registration for Teen Artist Workshops is currently closed. 2010 Camp offerings will be announced in February, 2010.

Location
All TAW activities will be held at EMP|SFM. Some workshops will have field trips off site; all field trip locations will be within walking distance of EMP|SFM. Drop-off and pick-up will take place at EMP|SFM's driving turnaround, just off 5th and Harrison.

Member Discount: EMP|SFM members receive discounts to all camp programs. Become a member today!

Early Registration Discount - Register for a Teen Artist Workshop before April 30 and receive a discount! Registration forms received by April 30 will receive $15 off each workshop.

Multiple Workshop Discount - Sign up for more than one Teen Artist Workshop and you'll receive $15 off each additional workshop! Multiple workshop discounts are available only when you register for all workshops at the same time.

Scholarships
Reduced tuition rates are available for qualifying families. Applications for financial aid are due June 1, 2009. Applications received after the due date will be considered only if scholarship funds are available. Cancellation Policy
Cancellations prior to 14 days before the start of the camp session will be granted a full refund, excluding the non-refundable registration deposit amount. No refunds will be granted within 14 days of the session start date. We reserve the right to cancel a class if enrollment is insufficient, in which case any tuition paid will be refunded in full.
