Manager, Instructional ProgramsDepartment: Education Email to a friend >>SUMMARY:
The Manager of Instructional Programs is responsible for the design, administration, and daily coordination of logistics for all the instructional offerings at EMP|SFM. These include Investigations and school group visits, camps, and other adult-oriented classes and workshops. From March through August, the manager also supervises a seasonal camps coordinator, who handles registrations and all logistics for the Museum’s extensive summer programming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned):
Management & Program Development
- Manage the scheduling and development of class offerings for Investigation Workshops, Spring-Break and Summer Camps, and Classes & Workshops that are in line with the mission of EMP|SFM.
- Develop and manage the annual budgets for all Instructional Programs.
- Hire and manage all contract teachers and instructional staff for EMP|SFM programs, which includes writing job descriptions, interviewing, hiring, drawing up contracts, and training the seasonal camp coordinator
- Work with the Marketing Department to oversee the marketing initiatives and outreach plans related to Instructional Programs, which includes establishing deadlines, writing copy for all promotional materials and signage, and composing and distributing outreach emails.
- Design and develop new curriculum for camp classes, instrument/band classes, and Investigation Workshops as needed. Investigations are 1-hour standards-based workshops offered to students in 3rd through 12th grades visiting the Museum on school field trips.
- Work with partner arts organizations and internal clients on existing programs.
- Partner with EMP|SFM facilities staff, security, museum tech, and visitor services staff to ensure efficient and effective museum functions between departments.
Coordination & Logistics
- Classes and Workshops: Process registrations and payments, data entry, prepare confirmation letters, answer phone and email inquiries, prepare class lists, badges and evaluation forms.
- Camps: Answer phone and email inquiries, process registrations for Spring Break Camp.
- Investigations: Schedule Teaching Artists upon reservation confirmation.
- Daily coordination for all Instructional Programs during the school year: reserve classroom space, set up classroom equipment, arrange for equipment maintenance, communicate effectively and coordinate efforts with other departments, respond to email and phone inquiries.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 3 years experience in a museum or non-profit arts education environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Musical proficiency in at least two instruments (including but not limited to: guitar, keyboard, voice, or drum) at a level equal to existing programmatic needs.
- Prior experience with art camps or other arts instruction, with a minimum of 3 years as a Teaching Artist, music educator preferred.
- Ability to learn, demonstrate and teach a variety of popular culture topics (music, sci-fi, arts) in a public forum. Working knowledge of popular music is a must.
- Experience managing multiple budgets and developing programs.
- Demonstrated success working directly with diverse populations, including K – 12 school groups.
- Team player, energetic, self-directed, well-mannered, and a great sense of humor.
- Excellent classroom and large-group management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent internal and external customer-service skills.
- Detail oriented, and highly organized.
- Experience with public speaking in a museum or non-profit arts education environment.
- A background and interest in popular culture studies beneficial; and science fiction literature and film, a big plus.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
