We were doing, "Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine)", that song. And I had this lick, dun, da, da, da, dadada, the organ thing, dun, da, da, da, dadada, you say you love me and, you know, that song.
And so Charlie, who was playing bass, came over to me and said, you know, if I played that lick on trumpet, it would sound great.
And I said, you know, you're right. I said, Bob doesn't like to overdub. So I went over to Bob, and I said, Charlie can play trumpet, and that lick would sound really good on trumpet. And Bob said, I don't want to overdub anything.
So, Charlie was sort of listening, and he walked over and said, you don't have to overdub it. I can play the bass and the trumpet at the same time. And Bob laughed like you just did. And Charlie said, no, I'm serious.
He said, if it's an overdub thing, then don't worry about it. So they set up a mic for the trumpet, and damn if he didn't, like the bass part was like, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, like that. So, he played the neck of the bass and just like, you know, hit it, like dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, da, dada, dada, dada, like that.
And Bob stopped. And both Bob and I, like our jaws hit the ground. So, Bob said, um, okay, you can do that, but I can't see you do it. So, they put a little curtain up. That was fabulous.
