PROGRAMS / SOUND OFF!
Rules & Regulations

  • Submissions will be judged on content, not on sound quality of recording.
  • All entries must be completed and received by November 9, 2009.
  • All participants must be 21 years of age or under as of March 6, 2010. This means all band members must have been born on or after March 7, 1988.
  • A total of four songs to submit is required. Note that only the first two songs will be screened during early stages of the selection process, while the full four songs will be screened as we get closer to final selection.
  • All bands must be from the Pacific Northwest. This is defined as: at least 50% of band members have permanent residence in Washington State, Oregon State, or British Columbia Province.
  • All submitted materials (music, application, pictures, etc.) become the property of EMP|SFM and will not be returned.
  • Twelve semi-finalists will be announced December 2009 -- date TBD.
  • Three semi-final concerts consisting of four bands each will take place on three dates in February 2010: February 13, 20 and 27, 2010. The winners of these three semi-final concerts will be scheduled for performance in the Sound Off! finals on Saturday March 6, 2010.
  • In any stage of the competition, any band that is offered a date and billing must accept that date and billing or be disqualified.
  • Further entries may be selected at any time to prevent any unfilled billings on any date.
  • Any band giving false, unsubstantiated, or misleading information on the application form will be disqualified.
  • The panel of judges will have access to all information provided on each band's entry form.
  • Band selection is made at the panel's sole discretion. The panel's decision is final in all matters regarding the selection process.
  • Bands selected to participate in Sound Off! will be expected to perform a 30 minute set at the semifinal round of competition.  Bands that advance to the finals will be expected to perform a 40 minute set.  EMP|SFM will provide standard backline equipment for the performances. 
  • Original music is required. Bands may not submit or perform in concert any cover songs or plagiarized material.  When applicable, original beats are strongly preferred, but sampling may be accepted.  Sampling must be fully disclosed to EMP|SFM and we will determine acceptability on a case by case basis. 
  • Contest prizes are not transferable. Prizes may not be substituted or redeemed for cash.
  • Failure to comply with the contest rules may result in disqualification.
  • Employees of Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame, its corporate licensee and parent corporation; the officers, shareholders, directors, employees, agents, representatives, and subsidiary companies of each such corporation; EMP|SFM–affiliated advertising agencies; broadcast stations affiliated with the EMP|SFM; and the members of their immediate families are not eligible to participate in or win EMP|SFM's Sound Off! 2010 band competition.
